Bolivar Tigers Clinch the Win for the District Championship
The Bolivar Central High School basketball Tigers took on the Scotts Hill High School Lions on Monday, February 20, 2023, clinched the district win, and brought home the plaque for BCHS and Hardeman County with a score of 70-63. The BCHS Tigers are the district 13AA regular season and tournament champions!
There were several memorable moments in the game, and Coach Cameron Crisp shared a couple that stood out.
“Seeing Adaylan Cross’ offensive rebound from a missed free throw and Christian McCarley making two free throws with a few seconds remaining in the game,” said Crisp who had been leading the Tigers as head coach since 2021.
Still high on the win, but Coach Crisp knows the players and coaches must prepare for the next game. The BCHS Tigers are now in preparation for their upcoming game against Martin Luther King College Preparatory High School (MLK CollegePrep) that will be played at BCHS on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 7 p.m. The teams will play for the regional quarterfinals.
“We will practice and make some adjustments on both defense and offense,” said Coach Crisp.
If BCHS beats MLK College Prep, the Tigers will continue to the semi-finals and play the winner of the Memphis Business Academy and Riverside High School game. Although MLK College Prep finished fourth in its district, based on the brackets for playoffs, BCHS must play that team and win to advance.
“Hopefully, we can pull off both of those wins from Saturday and Tuesday, and then we would play next Thursday for the regional championship,” said assistant coach Demetrice Beauregard, who was the former head coach at Bolivar Middle School and has been an assistant coach at BCHS for the past two years. “I feel great about the guys who have been coming in hungry and humble wanting to learn and get things done for the coaches, as well as everyone on the staff, and each other.”
Cameron Clifft, another BCHS assistant basketball coach, shared some about the preparation the Tigers are doing for the game on Saturday.
“We have to watch film, be prepared for the type of game they play, but most importantly we need to play our game and impose our will on them,” said Clifft who was an assistant basketball coach at BCHS during the 2003-2012 seasons and now since 2021.
