During a ceremony held at the Tennessee National Guard’s Volunteer Training Site in Tullahoma on March 21, 2023, Major Robert Crowley assumed command of Dyersburg’s 168th Military Police Battalion from Lieutenant Colonel Jeromy Spellings.

Held on the installation’s largest weapons qualification ranges, the 168th welcomed their new commander and thanked Spellings for his committed service to the unit during the last two and a half years while leading the battalion.

“It has been a privilege to command such professional soldiers,” said Spellings during the ceremony. “I know you will keep setting the standard and excelling at everything you do.”

Spellings next assignment is with the Facility Engineers at Nashville’s Joint Forces Headquarters.

Crowley, who has served in the Army National Guard since 1996, said during the ceremony that he is excited for the opportunity to lead the unit and
thanked Spellings for all he had done.

“It is an honor to be back with the 168th and to be their commander,” said Crowley. “They are a well-trained and highly motivated group of soldiers with a long lineage and tradition of excellence.”

Crowley served in the 168th Military Police Battalion as a platoon leader in 2005 and later deployed to Iraq with the 251st Military Police Company as a unit movement officer in 2007. Since then, he has held numerous key command and staff assignments in the Tennessee Army National Guard.

Crowley has a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education from Freed-Hardeman University. He currently resides in Middleton with his family.
