County Schools Promote the Trades Through Building Workshop
Through a partnership with Hardeman County Schools, vocational advocate Kayleen McCabe led building workshops for elementary students last week. Second and third graders from Hornsby, Toone, Whiteville, and Bolivar Elementary traveled to Lone Oaks Farm to participate in the beginner construction project. Each student had the opportunity to construct a tiny toolbox.
McCabe first visited with students in December, when she read construction themed books to spark their interest in the field. She then worked with shop students at Bolivar Central High School, who cut the lumber and assembled the kits for the elementary students to construct. Several shop students were also on hand last week to help the students build their tiny toolboxes.
Kayleen McCabe is a general contractor, vocational advocate, and television host of DIY Network’s Rescue Renovations. Her goal is to shed light on the rising demand for trade professionals and to help restore America’s respect for the trades.
