Town of Whiteville Meeting – June 2023

The Town of Whiteville met for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday, June 5, 2023, at the community center. Some of the items discussed included:

  • There was a second reading of the growth plan.
  • Employee health insurance coverage.
  • Dog show coming to City Park in July.
  • First readings of the 2023 budget amendments and a proposed $4 increase of the sanitation residential rate.
  • Internet and cyber security policy and the town moving to Aeneas for Internet service.
  • Reactivation of the Whiteville industrial board and recommended citizens to serve on the board.
  • Reports from the town departments with updates regarding issues that include the library lunch program, police department food distribution, grant money for a TCAT school resource officer, and an increase in car chases through the town.
  • Recognition of former Whiteville Mayor James Bellar and Whiteville Fire Captain Ramsey Fleet, and a benefit for David Morris.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Bowden’s annual Birthday Bash fundraiser.
  • The 2023 Main Street Festival that will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023. Some of the planned entertainment includes Caleb Minter, who opened the 2022 Red, White & Bolivar. Admission to the festival will be free to the public this year.
