Obituary: Georgia Sue Jeter

Georgia Sue Jeter ~ June 5, 1930 – June 16, 2023 (age 93)

Georgia Sue Jeter was born Thursday, June 5, 1930, to the late G. W. Smith and Ruby Frances Smith in Hardeman County. She was saved at the age of nine at Ebenezer Baptist Church. On May 28, 1961, she married Howard Jeter and they remained happily married for more than 55 years. Mrs. Jeter lived all her life in Hardeman County. Mrs. Jeter was a member of Shandy Baptist Church where she was church pianist for more than 50 years and, served in other capacities, as well.

Mrs. Jeter is survived by four sons, George Wayne Wiggins of Bolivar, Levourn Wiggins (Karen) of Otto, North Carolina, and Robert Jeter (Rose) and Charles Jeter (Cindy), both of Bolivar; three sisters, Martha Webb, and Ruth Smith (Edward) of Selmer and, Frances Sipes of Olive Branch, Mississippi; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Baker.

Funeral services will be held at Shackelford’s Bolivar chapel on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 1 p.m. Burial was in Shandy Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made, in her memory, to Shandy Baptist Church, Bolivar, Tennessee.
