Obituary: Brenda Oliver

Brenda Oliver ~ December 1, 1946 – August 13, 2023 (age 76)

Brenda Sue Smith Oliver, age 76, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and wife of the late Larry Gene Oliver, departed this life Sunday morning, August 13, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, Tennessee.

Brenda was born December 1, 1946, in Somerville, the daughter of the late David Montell Smith and Nancy Elizabeth Parks Smith. She received her education at Parks School and Fayette County High School, and was married May 31, 1962, to Larry Gene Oliver who preceded her in death on July 18, 2021.

Mrs. Oliver worked with her husband, who was the owner of Larry’s Auto Parts, for many years. She was a member of Parks Chapel Methodist Church and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, and buying things on QVC. Brenda was quick-witted and loved everything about Christmas time.

Mrs. Oliver is survived by two daughters, Melissa Watkins of Somerville, Tennessee and Leanne Ryan of Bolivar, Tennessee; her son, Tim Oliver (Cyndi) of Somerville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Daniel Watkins of Oakland, Tennessee, Patrick Watkins of Somerville, Tennessee, Patrick Ryan of Bolivar, Tennessee, David Stout of Oakland, Tennessee, and Dana Karcher of Somerville, Tennessee; and nine great-grandchildren, Dani Lynn Watkins, Hayden Watkins, Ella Ryan, Jace Ryan, Bradley Davis, Jackson Karcher, Grant Karcher, Elijah Stout, and Parker Stout.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Smith.

A visitation for Mrs. Oliver will be at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 2 p.m. with Brother Tony Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Somerville City Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Daniel Watkins, Zach Jenkins, Pat Ryan, Trey Watkins, Patrick Watkins, and Mickey Watkins.

The family requests memorials be directed to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 91891, Washington, D.C. 20090-1891.
