Senator Walley Congratulates Bolivar Senior Center for Receiving Competitive Grant

State Senator Page Walley is congratulating 11 senior citizen centers, including Bolivar Senior Center, in Senate District 26 for receiving grants from the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD). Following a competitive grant process, TCAD distributed $8,000 grants to 125 senior centers across Tennessee.

“I am very pleased that so many senior centers in my district completed successful grant applications and will receive an $8,000 grant from TCAD,” said Walley. “I was proud to support their applications as well as the funding for these grants in our state budget, which will help provide much needed resources to facilities tasked with the very important job of taking care of our aging citizens. I congratulate these 11 senior centers on securing grants and appreciate TCAD for administering the funds.”

The funding for these grants was allocated by the Tennessee General Assembly this year, which appropriated $1,000,000 for senior centers across the state in the state budget.

Senior citizen centers in Senate District 26 receiving grants include:

  • Bolivar Senior Center
  • Brownsville/Haywood County Senior Center

  • Fayette County Commission on Aging
  • Hardin County Senior Center
  • Lawrence County Senior Citizens Club
  • McNairy County Senior Center
  • Selmer Senior Center

According to the grant application submitted by the Bolivar Senior Center, “The City of Bolivar continues to strive to provide free public exercise classes to all seniors throughout the county each and every week. These programs are widely utilized with approximately 50 + attendees each day.” The application continued, “Another program that is growing tremendously for seniors is our water aerobics class.”

The grant application mentioned equipment needs for the Bolivar Senior Center as; “water (foam) weights, 2-5 lbs. traditional weights, exercise mats, and exercise chairs” and continued, “Our water aerobics classes need float collars, swim belts, water workout dumb bells, push plates, aqua disks, aerobic bar floats, and a storage rack to maintain the quality and life of the equipment.”

The Bolivar Senior Center is located at 211 North Washington Street, Bolivar, Tennessee 38008.
