Obituary: Mickey Luna

Mickey Luna ~ January 4, 1936 – August 8, 2023 (age 87)

Mickey Luna, beloved wife, mother, and cherished member of the community, passed away on August 8, 2023, in Collierville, Tennessee. She was born on January 4, 1936, in Saulsbury, Tennessee, daughter of the late Odis White McKee and Beatrice Riley Mckee and lived in the Memphis area over 60 years. Mickey led a fulfilling life that was marked by love and dedication to her family.

Graduating from Grand Junction School, Mickey pursued numerous part-time jobs, including working for Welcome Wagon. However, her most cherished role was that of a homemaker as she dedicated herself to raising her children with love and care.

In her earlier years, Mickey found joy in playing tennis and sewing. She exhibited great skill and passion while indulging in these activities. Additionally, she nurtured a deep connection with nature and enjoyed engaging in yard work and tending to her house plants. Mickey’s green thumb was evident to all who visited her home.

Mickey’s memory will forever be cherished by her surviving family members. She leaves behind her loving husband Hugh Luna, who stood by her side through thick and thin. since their marriage on January 15, 1955; her daughter, Cheryl McClarty, of Okland, Mississippi; and son, Ronnie Luna (Sheila), of Mt. Pleasant, Mississippi will forever treasure the guidance and love they received from their dear mother.

In addition to her immediate family members, Mickey leaves behind cherished memories for numerous extended family members and friends. Her brothers, Jimmy McKee (Darlene) of Paris, Tennessee and Ricky McKee (Martha Nell) of Paris, Tennessee; and her sister, Nelda Vaughn, of Bolivar hold fond memories of their beloved sister. She was a grandmother to Mandy Khan, Ashley Luna and Craig McClarty; and a great grandmother to McKenna Stonecipher, Luke Kahn, and Elizabeth Khan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Galloway and Bernice Shelby; and two brothers, J.W. and Odis McKee.

To honor the memory of Mickey Luna, visitation will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar, Tennessee, on August 12, 2023. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will be followed by a funeral service, also at Shackelford Funeral Directors at 1 p.m. The burial will take place at Hopewell Cemetery in Walnut, Mississippi.

Mickey Luna’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all those who knew her.
