Governor Lee Kicks off Statewide Conservation Tour in Bolivar

On Friday, September 15, 2023, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee kicked off his statewide Conservation Tour with a ceremonial bill signing and ceremonial parks grant check presentation in Bolivar. The Conservative Tour highlights Tennessee’s conservation strategy and celebrates recent investments in state parks, brownfield cleanup and advancement of nuclear energy.

This year, Governor Lee worked with the General Assembly to pass key legislation and fund statewide conservation priorities in the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget. The ceremonial signing of the Rural Brownfields Investment Act in Bolivar will begin remediation efforts for 175 known brownfield sites, including the Old Tannery site in Bolivar.

“From Mountain City to Memphis, our state is blessed with natural beauty and rich natural resources,” said Governor Lee. “Our resources will only be around for the future if we invest in them today. That’s why we’ve developed a conservation strategy that balances our state’s economic growth with a plan to protect our environment.”

The Governor also presented Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic with a ceremonial Local Parks and Recreation Fund grant check for $602,000 which will help fund additional improvements at Sand Beach Lake, including a pavilion, restrooms, boat ramp, and amphitheater.
