Whiteville Recognizes Officers, Announces Officers of the Year

The City of Whiteville Police Department recognized three police officers at the Town of Whiteville’s regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 6, 2023.

Captain Hatch presented awards to officers “to let them know that their work is not in vain, that we see what they do”.

Captain Hatch presents the 2023 Traffic Safety Officer of the Year award to Rashad Weaver.

The 2023 Traffic Safety Officer of the Year award was presented to Rashad Weaver. Captain Hatch shared that Officer Weaver had already written 621 citations from January 1, 2023, through November 9, 2023.

Captain Hatch presents the 2023 Community Safety Officer of the Year award to Corporal Desmond Williams.

The 2023 Community Safety Officer of the Year award was presented to Corporal Desmond Williams. “Corporal Williams does a lot in the community. He’s gentle as a cat, but can roar as a lion when he needs to,” said Captain Hatch.

He continued, “When we say Community Police . . . everyone doesn’t like the police, some don’t trust us, but when we go into these communities, he makes himself known. First of all by being friendly, to let them know we’re not here to harm you, whatever your need is that’s what we’re here for.”

Captain Hatch honors K-9 David Nabors for his outstanding service with a Recognition of Excellence award.

The final award was a Recognition of Excellence honoring K-9 David Nabors for his outstanding service to the Whiteville Community during the tragic events on September 4, 2023.

The award stated, “We salute you on a job well done. On Monday, September 4, 2023, during the most difficult of times, you sir strived to success by pure determination for justice for the Whiteville Community. Your fearless attitude and drive is recognized by the Whiteville Police Department.”
