Area High Schools Remind Spectators of New Unsportsmanlike Conduct Policy

As area high schools prepare for the upcoming basketball season, they want to make sure all spectators are aware of a new Tennessee Secondary School Athletics Association (TSSAA) policy regarding unsportsmanlike conduct.

Hatchie Press first reported on the policy change in July when the TSSAA legislative council approved changes related to unsportsmanlike conduct by spectators. The Council added language allowing the association to fine a school a minimum of $250 when it has a fan ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct. {click here to read more about the TSSAA changes}

Bolivar Central High School (BCHS) shared, “If a spectator is ejected by an official for unsportsmanlike conduct, the school will be fined $250. If this were to happen to Bolivar Central, the funds would be paid from the athletic budget of that sport, which in turn negatively impacts the program and the student-athletes. Therefore, if any spectator is ejected by TSSAA officials, that individual will not be allowed to attend any future Bolivar Central athletic events until the school has been reimbursed. We look forward to a great season, and we ask that all our fans show class and sportsmanship.”

BCHS reminds spectators that tickets for November’s games are now available on GoFan.co for $8, or $10 cash at the gate. Season passes will go on sale on Thursday, November 9, 2023, for $90 and may be purchased at the main office.

Please be aware that all spectators will be screened by a metal detector when entering, so plan your arrival times accordingly to avoid a long line.
