Bolivar City Councilman Williams Completes Police CIT Training
Bolivar City Councilman Chris Williams, who works with the Memphis Police Department in the Public Information Office under Executive Administration, graduated from Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training on Friday, December 15, 2023. The CIT training was the first regional session that included officers from 13 different agencies spanning three states.
“Law enforcement is rapidly changing and continues to evolve. Through specialized training, officers keep up with the latest trends, advanced technology, and best practices,” said Williams. “The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) was created and developed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1988. The program is known around the world as the “Memphis Model” and has been used to train thousands of officers to better understand how to deal with those in crisis or suffering from a mental disability.”
Williams has worked in law enforcement for more than 10 years and has seen a positive shift in his field towards a continued effort of finding ways to better serve citizens with mental health conditions.
“After over a decade in the law enforcement profession, I’m still learning and adding to my “tool belt”. It was an honor to be part of this historic training,” said Williams.
