Update 1/15/24: Due to winter weather, the regularly scheduled meeting of the Hardeman County Commission has be rescheduled to Tuesday, January 23 at 7 p.m.

The Hardeman County Regional Planning Commission met on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. One of the first items on the agenda was the annual election of officers. The commission voted to keep the current officers in their positions. The officers are: Chairman – Eddie Moore, Vice Chairman – Andy Shelton, and Secretary – Mary Ann Polk.

The Commission then reviewed and discussed several proposed zoning resolutions, during its three-hour meeting. One resolution is designed to remove certain zoning restrictions on existing building lots and includes a “grandfathering” provision in hopes of encouraging residential growth. This resolution could affect residents owning property in lake communities such as Grand Valley Lakes, Candlewood Lakes, and Woodrun. Other resolutions discussed would require the Zoning Officer to obtain approval from the County Commission before taking legal action against residents not in zoning compliance. A public hearing was held for each resolution, with many members of the public sharing their concerns.

While the resolutions discussed at the meeting are expected to come before the County Commission in February, the Planning Commission is presenting a resolution regarding solar farm/power plant zoning to the County Commission next week.

The solar farm/power plant zoning resolution will be presented to the Hardeman County Commission, for approval or refusal, at their meeting on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 7 p.m. The Commission meeting will be live-streamed to the Hatchie Press YouTube channel and Facebook page.
