City of Middleton Meets for First Time in New Year
The City of Middleton met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday, January 22, 2024. The meeting was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 16, 2024, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.
Some of the items on the agenda included:
The board approved the minutes from the December 18, 2023 meeting.
Mayor Mott shared his concerns over the bill the City received from Hardeman County 911. He stated the 911 board said it will end dispatch service to any municipality that has not paid the bill by Monday, March 4, 2024. (Watch the full discussion at the 1:40 minute mark in the video)
The Fire Department Report, which was presented by Chief Marcum, included;
13 calls in December. Two were mutual aid.
The Police Department Report, which was presented by Lieutenant Webb, included;
Complaints – 308; arrests – 1 adult, and 0 juvenile and 0 drug arrests; traffic citations issued – 10; traffic warnings – 21; motor assists – 12; vehicle lockout assists – 14; other public assist incidents – 40; crash reports/accidents – 1; alarm call – 0; and city assists/county assists – 35.
The Board approved allowing the Civitan Club to place a banner advertising their barbeque contest across Highway 125 just north of Dogwood.
The Board approved a letter of intention to apply for the Tennessee Downtowns Grant. They also approved forming a Steering Committee and the members to serve on the committee that will oversee the grant.
The Board approved the IRS standard mileage rate of 67 cents per mile as a reimbursement rate for city employees.
The Board approved the first reading to amend Ordinance 2020-05 Purchasing Policy to include Sourcewell as a supplier to help make purchases and to help the City stay in compliance with its purchasing policy.
The board approved the Bad Debt on three citizens utilities accounts.
It was announced J.P. Shelly & Sons will be recognized by the State for being in business for over 100 years. The recognition will take place at 114 Dogwood, on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
No citizens were present to speak during the Public Comment period.
The fiscal year 2022-2023 audit reports were distributed to board members.
The current revenue and expense report was distributed to board members.
