The Arts Council Holds Auditions for Southern Fried Funeral

It is time again for another audition with the Hardeman County Arts Council (HCAC) as it looks to cast its summer production of Southern Fried Funeral. Although Dewey Frye has died, and his family is “left to pick up the pieces”, comedy just could not stay away.

SYNPOSIS: Dewey Frye is dead and the rest of his family is left to pick up the pieces — that is if they don’t kill each other first. Not only does matriarch Dorothy have to contend with sudden widowhood, but she’s also faced with church-committee harpy Ozella Meeks sticking her nose in the family business, Dewey’s snake-in-the-grass brother making a grab for her house, and two grown daughters reliving their childhood rivalry. Funerals bring out the worst, the best, and the funniest in people, and the Fryes are no exception. A big-hearted comedy about family — Southern-style.

The cast includes six women and five men, ages 18 and older. The production will be directed by Wendy Siler who is an HCAC regular on the stage and can often be found somewhere around the theatre working behind the scenes when not acting.

The auditions will be held at the Hardeman County Arts Center { 1580 West Market Street, Bolivar, Tennessee 38008 } on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 10 a.m. and Sunday, March 24, 2024, at 2 p.m. The production dates are Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, 2024, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 2 p.m.
