Fayette Cares Hosts Ribbon-Cutting to Showcase Food Pantry and Shelter Renovations
On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, nearly 40 people attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the expansion of the Fayette Cares emergency food pantry and homeless shelter.
The pantry has nearly tripled in size, and the shelter now includes eight units with 31 beds, providing essential emergency food and shelter resources to men, women, and children in need. The public was invited to tour the Fayette Cares facilities, meet the staff and Board of Directors, and learn about the meaningful work made possible through community support.
The enhancements were funded by community contributions and grants from Ford Philanthropy and the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA). During the celebration, Hassan Hammoud, Ford Philanthropy Senior Manager of Essential Services, remarked on the significance of the service expansions. Tremendous support has been shown to Fayette Cares to make this work possible.
“Through the first quarter of 2024, Fayette Cares distributed more than 10,000 pounds of food, assisting nearly 400 families each month,” shared Fayette Cares Executive Director, Alexandra Porto. “As we celebrate among the well-stocked shelves, we don’t just see cans, boxes, or bags of food; we see people being fed and nourished by a caring community. The impact we make together is undeniably powerful.”
