Obituary: Alma Lee Herron

Alma Lee Herron ~ December 14, 1940 – June 13, 2024 (age 83)

Alma Lee Herron was born on December 14, 1940 in Whiteville, Tennessee to Katherine Jones and Henry Lee Holt, and was also raised by Sammy Jones.

Ms. Alma professed a hope in Jesus Christ at an early age at Morrow Grove CME Church. She later joined Jones Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Hickory Valley where she was a faithful member who served as church secretary and member of the mother’s ministry. Ms. Alma was a member of Eastern Star and served as secretary of Golden Grain Good Shepard. She worked various jobs including at Western State, New Castle Store, and eventually retired from Walmart.

Alma was united in Holy Matrimony to James Herron and to this union, five children were born.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lee Holt, Katherine Jones, and Sammy Jones; two brothers, Robert Jones and Milton Holt; three sisters, Christine Holt Jenkins, Etta Beatrice Saunders, and Mary Holt Harris; one son in law, Kent Joy; one grand daughter, Deidra Ann Herron and LeKesha Polk.

Her funeral service will be held at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday June 18, 2024, at 12 p.m. with Reverend Robert Poplar in charge. Burial will be in the Jones Grove Church Cemetery and Dixie Funeral Home is in charge of the professional service.

She leaves to cherish her memories five children, Adrienne Walker and Devin Herron both of Memphis, Tennessee, Dirvy (Thea) Herron, Lesa Joy, and Paul Herron all of Bolivar, Tennessee; bonus children, Easter (Robert) Polk, Bergine (Lee) Poplar, Misty Armour, Daphne “Rabbit” (Tony) Woods, Temesha (Elston) Howard, and Kendre Jones; three sisters, Jo Ella Beard, Fannie Holt, and Clementine Holt Pollard; one sister-in-law, Annie Holt; one brother, James Holt; eleven grandchildren, Durrane (Sammantha) Herron, Stepfoneo (Ebony) Herron, Cortlin Herron, Kendrian Herron, Kendrick Joy, Kent (Nictoria ) Joy, Delicia Herron, Deidre (Christopher) Bowling, Shorlyn Herron, Antoinette Parham, and Tierra Easley; one special friend, Alma Harville; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
