Gun Discovered at Bolivar Central High School; Student in Custody

Bolivar, TN – September 11, 2024 – This morning, Chief Mike Jones of the Bolivar Police Department and Mayor Julian McTizic announced that a firearm was found at Bolivar Central High School. The gun was discovered after a student was observed hiding it in the ceiling of the school earlier today.

The student responsible has been taken into custody, and the firearm has been confiscated without incident. Authorities have taken swift action to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

In an abundance of caution, the school has been placed on a light lockdown. While there is no ongoing threat, the lockdown remains in effect as a precautionary measure. Parents are permitted to check their children out of school today by following the guidelines provided by the Hardeman County Board of Education.

“We are committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” said Chief Jones. “This situation was handled quickly, and we will continue working with the school and community to ensure everyone remains safe.”

Mayor McTizic added, “We are thankful for the swift actions of our local law enforcement and school staff. The safety of our community’s children is our top priority.”

As this remains an active investigation, the department will not have any further statement at this time.
