Meet the Past, Living History Bus Tour of Shiloh Battlefield
Would you like to meet six people who participated in the Battle of Shiloh? Join Shiloh National Military Park this Saturday for a special living history event!
“On Saturday, September 21, 2024, Shiloh National Military Park will host a living history bus tour for the first time,” said Acting Park Superintendent Stacy Allen. “The tour will take visitors to historic sites on the battlefield where they will meet people who experienced the Battle of Shiloh and hear their
stories,” he continued.
Before becoming a world renown writer, journalist, and poet, Ambrose Bierce survived the bloody battle of Shiloh and wrote his memoir What I Saw of Shiloh describing his terrifying experience in the battle. Today, Bierce is considered one of America’s most important writers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries on the same level as Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft. Bierce is one of six characters to be portrayed by living historians you will meet on the bus tour.
Other Shiloh veterans bus riders will meet include explorer Henry Morton Stanley, nurse and soldier’s advocate “Mother” Bickerdyke, Tennessee soldier Sam Watkins, naval officer William Gwin, and war widow Ann Wallace.
The bus tour is free, but seats are limited. Bus tours will depart from the park’s visitor center at 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 4:40 p.m., and 5:10 p.m. and last about one hour. Please call (731) 689-5696 to reserve your seats today.
