Obituary: William Alfred Tice, Sr.

William Alfred Tice, Sr. ~ December 29, 1951 – September 12, 2024 (age 72)

Visitation services only for William Alfred Tice, Sr., 72, of Grand Junction, Tennessee, will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Bolivar. He departed this life Thursday evening, September 12, 2024, at Bolivar General Hospital.

Mr. Tice was born in Memphis on Saturday, December 29, 1951, to the late Gene and Mildred McClure Tice. He grew up in the Moscow and Slayden communities and never ventured far from home eventually settling in Grand Junction in 1982.

Mr. Tice, described by his family as the classic “jack-of-all-trades”, found work throughout his life in various occupations, in all of which he excelled. He was a small engine repairman, roofer, farm equipment operator, law enforcement officer with the city of Lagrange, and truck driver and fleet manager in the trucking industry.  One of the jobs he enjoyed the most, and one which showed off his love of cooking, was being owner/operator of Big Al’s restaurant.

Alfred was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest! He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church near Moscow and loved his church family. Alfred also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and music (especially singing). He cherished time spent with all of his family. and friends and family could always tell how much he cared for them by the way he would “aggravate” those around him – it was his way of expressing his love and friendship.

He leaves a daughter, Angela (Jason) Fish of Ripley, Tennessee: two sons, Al (Brandi) Tice, Jr. of Grand Junction and Nick (Amber) Tice of Saulsbury; two half-sisters, Pauline Sexton and Sherry Orman, both of Lamar, Mississippi; two half-brothers, Leroy Feathers and Terry Bell, both of Hickory Valley, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren, Hailey Newcomb, Will Johnson, Reno Tice, Sierra Manley, Carson Tice, Nathan Kolb, Kayleb Tice, Harlee Tice, Nylah Tice, Mason Tice, and Nevaeh Tice; several great-grandchildren; and, his beloved chihuahua, “Rocky”.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Mickey Henson; four brothers, David Tice, Clifton Tice, Bobby Miller, and Johnny Tice; a half-sister, Tina Davis; and a half-brother-in-law, Glen Sexton.

Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.\
