Commissioners Gatlin and Miller Hold Town Hall Meeting in Bolivar

On Monday, October 14, 2024, Commissioners Michion E. Gatlin and Bethany Miller held a joint town hall meeting at the Carriage House Coffee in Bolivar. The event brought together local leaders and concerned citizens to discuss important community updates and initiatives.
Mayor Julian McTizic announced a new emergency alert system called Bolivar Connect, which will enhance the city’s ability to communicate during emergencies and power outages. Additionally, he shared exciting news about the upcoming improvements to Sand Beach Lake, set to begin in spring 2025.
Mayor Todd Pulse provided updates on county initiatives, including an application for a grant to secure a new ambulance, although he noted the process could take up to two years. He also highlighted the success of the litter grant program, which has successfully removed over 150 million tons of litter. Pulse informed attendees about the upcoming closure of the National Guard Armory and announced the new location for the Hardeman County Election Commission at 227 Lucy Black Road, Bolivar, Tennessee 38008. Early voting is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, and will conclude on Thursday, October 31, 2024
Representative Johnny Shaw delivered updates for the three counties he represents. In Hardeman County, he noted that Lone Oaks Farm has become the largest 4-H Club in the United States, forming partnerships with the Hardeman County Board of Education and Ford Motor Company. For Madison County, he announced jet services from Jackson to Atlanta are forthcoming from McKellar air field, along with job creation from the Great Wolf Lodge project. In Haywood County, he celebrated the operational status of Blue Oval and expressed gratitude to Ford/SK for bringing over 6,000 jobs to the area.
Furthermore, Representative Shaw plans to introduce new legislation aimed at enhancing mental health awareness, reflecting a commitment to addressing this critical issue in the community.
