Obituary: Patsy Cossar Bell
Patsy Cossar Bell, a beloved figure in her community, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Christian Care Center in Bolivar, Tennessee, bringing to a close a remarkable journey that began on March 20, 1953, in Bolivar. She was a true daughter of Hardeman County, where she spent her entire life, nurturing both plants and friendships that flourished around her.
Patsy was known for her kind spirit and infectious smile. Her career as a hairdresser and partner, alongside her sister, Ivy, at Hairitage Hair Salon exemplified her dedication to her craft and deep connection with her customers. Patsy also contributed to her community through various roles, working as a clerk at service stores and embracing the fast-paced environment of a waitress at Frostyland.
An avid gardener, Patsy’s love of working with plants mirrored her nurturing nature. She found joy in cooking, often preparing meals that brought family and friends together. Her cherished cat, Buster, was a loyal companion who illuminated her days with furry affection. Music and dancing were passions that filled her heart with joy, and she treasured the moments spent enjoying the rhythm of her favorite tunes.
Patsy’s vibrant spirit was complemented by her active involvement in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, where she forged lasting friendships built on camaraderie and shared experiences. Despite the challenges she faced during the last decade of her life, being disabled for 10 to 12 years, she maintained an uplifting presence that inspired those around her. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held at Reaves Cemetery on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 2 p.m. with Mickey Cossar and Eddie Martin officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar will provide the professional arrangements.
Survived by her loving husband, James Bell of Middleton, whom she married June 14, 1985, and her wonderful sisters, Ivy Williamson and Bob of Bolivar and Vicky Tucker and Richard of Middleton, Patsy’s family continued to be one of her greatest treasures. She is also survived by her brother, Kenneth Cossar and Connie of Bolivar; her grandchildren, Devin, Loren, and Morgan Houston, and Lexi Butler—were a source of immense pride and joy, igniting a love that spanned generations.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Radford E. and Mildred Hurst Cossar, her brothers, George and Ricky Cossar, and her son, Donnie Houston, who passed away on March 31, 2017. Though they may have departed this world, their memories will live on through the stories shared and the love passed down within the family.
Patsy Cossar Bell will forever be cherished, and her spirit will undoubtedly continue to bloom in the hearts of those who loved her.
