Tennessee Freedom Tour Rolls into Hardeman County

Tennessee Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton rolled into Hardeman County by bus to the Courthouse Square in Bolivar on Friday, November 1, 2024, as part of his Tennessee Freedom Tour. The event was a state-wide Get Out the Vote Rally featuring elected officials from across the state. Stops were made in East Tennessee, continuing into Middle Tennessee, and finishing in West Tennessee with Hardeman County being the 39th stop on the tour.

“We are trying to make sure the people go out and vote, because it is so important,” said United States Representative David Kustoff, who was one of the featured elected officials.

Kustoff represents citizens in West Tennessee in the 8th Congressional District – parts of 20 counties, which is the largest congressional district in Tennessee. Kustoff noted the area is the largest agricultural district in the State of Tennessee.

Other elected officials on the tour included United States Representative John Rose and Tennessee State Senator Page Walley. The focus of the tour was about freedom and how to keep that vision alive into Election Day and after.

“We are all about freedom on this bus tour and about this election . . . economic freedom . . . healthcare freedom . . . personal freedom . . . 2nd amendment freedom . . . religious freedom . . . education freedom . . . and of course your freedom to do what you need to do to be successful,” said Sexton.

A large crowd of Republicans and some people from other political parties attended the rally to hear their representatives speak. All of the representatives shared a few words about what motivates them to serve the citizens of Tennessee and also the values they promote in the Senate, House, as well as in Washington, D.C.
“If we look to Washington and then to Nashville, it is important we’ve got strong voices in Nashville to represent our values,” said Kustoff.

“The job that David and I have is to make sure that we do everything we can to get us back on track as a country. And so, our job is to take your values, your Tennessee values to Washington, and keep Washington out of Tennessee,” said Rose.

Although Representative Walley is running uncontested, he still felt it was important to join the tour and meet with his constituents. Representative Walley, who was named after his uncle, a World War II bombardier killed in action, shared some words.

“My father named me after him [his uncle]. What would he want to see today for the sacrifices he and so many of your fathers and grandfathers and family members made? Well, I think it is printed on the side of that bus, freedom! Freedom to convene, to speak, to bear arms, to worship, all of these that we should never take for granted, because they could be lost in a moment,” said Senator Walley. “Thank God we have remarkable leadership in our Senate, in our House, and leaders securing our values here in Tennessee. And David and John are trying to do likewise in Washington. We want to keep Washington out of Tennessee and put more Tennessee in Washington!”

Although the rally was in support of the Republican party, the general intent was to encourage people to get out and vote on Election day.
