Bolivar Middle Basketball Tigers Win at Memphis Classic Tournament
The Bolivar Middle School basketball Tigers headed to Memphis to participate in the Memphis Athletics Ministries (MAM) Classic and came home as the winners in their division! It was the first time the BMS school team participated in the annual event, which was held Friday through Sunday, December 20-22, 2024.
There were 32 public and private middle school basketball teams, which participated in the Christmas tournament. BMS was placed in the Silver Bracket, which had them playing Hickory Ridge Middle, Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal School, Lowrance K-8 School, and Raleigh Egypt Middle. They played Woodland Presbyterian in the championship game. After a score of 49-35 against Woodland, the BMS Tigers were named the MAM Silver Bracket champions!
BMS basketball coach Mauricio Rivers shared some memorable moments from the Classic.
“We were winning the third game of the tournament with four of my players fouling out, and still won by more than 10 points,” said coach Rivers. “The highlight was winning the championship! I’m very proud of my young men on playing hard and together all weekend. The sky is the limit!”
Coach Rivers also expressed his appreciation for his staff, which included assistant coaches Demetrice Beauregard, Adarius Murphy, Taurus Waller, and Desmond Williams.
In the regular 2024/2025 season, the BMS middle school Tigers are currently 11-1 in their season. The Tigers and Lady Tigers return to the court for regular season play on Monday, January 6, 2025, against the Whiteville Elementary School Lions, and play again on Thursday, January 9, 2025, against the West Middle School Lions. Both are home games. The districtwide middle school basketball tournament will be held Saturday through Wednesday, January 25-29, 2025, in Adamsville.
“Please come out and support these kids,” said coach Rivers.
