Area Retired Teachers Prepare to Give Back to Current Students

Although they are no longer educating in the classroom, members of the Hardeman County Retired Teachers Association (HCRTA) are giving back to area students through its annual school supply donation drive. The HCRTA wants to ensure the students are equipped as they prepare for the annual Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) testing.
“State-mandated testing begins in Tennessee with third grade in Reading/Language Arts and Math,” said Dorrie Powell, HCRTA secretary.
The HCRTA met this month to collect supplies and plans to distribute those items to area schools, which include Bolivar Elementary School, Grand Junction Elementary School, Hornsby Elementary School, Middleton Elementary School, Toone Elementary School, and Whiteville Elementary School.
The HCRTA has 40 active members and meets at least once a month providing a continued connection for fellow educators in Hardeman County. Along with presentations from speakers on topics relevant to both educators as well as retirees, members participate in service projects to support the students and teachers in Hardeman County.
