Ashley Morrow Becomes First Female Sanitation Truck Driver in Bolivar

Ashley Morrow joined the City of Bolivar’s Streets and Sanitation Department earlier this month, a career move, which led to her making history as the city’s first female sanitation truck driver. She has never stepped away from a challenge and relied on her faith before making the decision to accept the position.
“I walk by faith. No matter what I do, I make sure God is in the midst. With taking this job, I had to give it a lot of thought and pray and ask God to guide me,” said Ms. Morrow, who admits to experiencing a bit of hesitation.
Ms. Morrow will be operating a commercial dumpster truck. She believes getting her Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) license was the best decision she could have made. Having that license gives her permission to drive large commercial vehicles like tractor-trailers, big-rigs, 18-wheelers, and dumpster trucks. It also can lead to more job opportunities with higher earning potential.
“Speaking out to both men and women, getting your CDL is a great thing to have under your belt and experience the trade that comes with it,” said Ms. Morrow.
Although she did not set out to make history, Ms. Morrow is aware of her accomplishment and proud of the example she has set for her children.
“As a mother of five, I have always had the mindset there is no such job as a “man job”. I can do and will do anything I put my mind to. Setting an example for my children, but especially for my daughter, is important to me,” said Ms. Morrow, who has encouraging words for other women. “To the women, especially of Hardeman County, never feel there is jobs out here just for men.”
Ms. Morrow is excited about becoming a team member with the sanitation department and is appreciative for the opportunity.
“I want to thank the City of Bolivar for the opportunity not only to work, but letting my children experience seeing their mother make history,” said Ms. Morrow.
