Hornsby’s Fire Chief Named Horn Lake Firefighter of the Year

Dustin Lawrence, who is the fire chief of the Town of Hornsby, was recognized as Horn Lake Fire Department Firefighter of the Year where he is employed as a firefighter paramedic. He has worked with the Horn Lake Fire Department for almost three years and as the Hornsby fire chief for about one year.

The love of helping people and inspiration from a close family member led Dustin to join the firefighting service nine years ago.

“My youngest brother, Payton, inspired me to join the [fire] service,” said Dustin.

It was after the devastating loss experienced by another close family member, which prompted him to make firefighting a career.

“After my mother’s house burnt, I decided to pursue it as a career,” said Dustin, who shared what he loves most about the job. “The best part is helping people.”

Dustin is proud to have been recognized by the Horn Lake Fire Department, but his true satisfaction comes in the service opportunities the job allows him.

“In all honesty, it’s not about recognition,” said Dustin. “It’s about knowing I’m helping people and maybe making a difference in someone’s life.”
