Hardeman County Schools Recognizes 2024/2025 Teachers of the Year

Teachers from the nine area schools in Hardeman County were recognized as Teachers of the 2024/2025 School year at the April school board meeting, which was held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Mario Scott of Bolivar Elementary School (BES), Shelly Armstrong of Bolivar Middle School (BMS), Vicki Harris of Bolivar Central High School (BCHS), Michelle Parsons of Grand Junction Elementary School (GJES), Sandra Story of Hornsby Elementary School (HES), Cassie Elliott of Middleton Elementary School (MES), Carla Doyle of Middleton High School (MHS), Andreia Doyle of Toone Elementary School (TES), and Jennifer Hertweck of Whiteville Elementary School (WES) were presented certificates for their recognition by the principals of their schools.

Teachers of the Year are chosen by the staff from each school in Hardeman County. In order to be eligible for Teacher of the Year, a teacher must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a full-time, certified, in good standing, Pre-k-12 teacher,
  • Spend the majority of the school day in direct instruction to students,
  • Have a minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in Tennessee public schools, and
  • Be recognized as leaders within the community as well as in the school.

Principals submit the name of the School Level Teacher of the Year to the District Office. Each school recipient completes a Teacher of the Year application and submits it to the district office. The applications are reviewed by a committee designated by the district office with three being chosen to advance to region level competition.

After the school levels winners are chosen, the teachers have the opportunity to be selected for the regional level teacher of the year. The school principals submit the name of the School Level Teacher of the Year to the District Office. Each school level recipient completes a Teacher of the Year application and submits it to the district office. The applications are reviewed by a committee designated by the district office with three being chosen to advance to region level competition.

“These teachers will have the opportunity to move forward and participate in the regional Teacher of the Year recognition and possibly go to state,” said Dr. Christy Smith.
