Whiteville Main Street Festival Brought the Community to the Streets

Main Street in Whiteville transformed from the every day of business life on Saturday, August 27, 2022, to a festive stretch of road full of people sitting on lawn chairs, food vendors, bouncy houses, and more for the 2nd Annual Main Street Festival. The event began at 3 p.m. under a blazing midday sun, but the heat did not stop the crowds from coming out and enjoying the festival, and staying all day and into the evening.

M.C. Camille Shavon, columnist and media personality, took command of the day and kicked off the festival bringing excitement and great expectation.

The Hardeman County Black History Chorus started the afternoon with praise and worship through song.

As a community event, Mayor Gene Bowden recognized people who have made positive impacts on the community. Christina Pirtle, a member of Rivers of Life International Ministries, received a plaque for her 14 years of service through the Feeding the Multitude Food Pantry.

Charles Morrow, who previously served as a Hardeman County Commissioner, was recognized for his life of community service. His wife, Linda, accepted the award in his place.

The life of Captain Ramsey Fleet was celebrated earlier that week with a last call procession and again at the festival with a balloon release.

The Flammin Gems and 24Karat were youth groups that performed.

The ladies from the Total Transformation line dancing class made exercising look fun and effortless with their exercise and dance demonstration.

Some festival goers grabbed the mic and “sang for their supper” winning vendor food bucks for their performances.

Music continued throughout the afternoon with R&B singer Arnisha & the Unit.

That got festival goers on their feet and dancing.

There was something for everyone . . .

from fair rides . . .

to a number of vendors with a variety of foods.

Singer/song writer Darryl Worley closed out the evening under the lights.

“The Whiteville 2nd Annual Main Street Festival was a success driven from the hearts of performers, MC, and event committee teamwork to create memorable moments with expectations for next year,” said Angelous Simmons, event committee chair.
