Obituary: William Grady “W. G.” Capshaw, Jr.

William Grady “W. G.” Capshaw, Jr. ~ February 9, 1944 – July 11, 2025 (age 81)

Mr. William Grady “W. G.” Capshaw, Jr., 81, of Middleton, departed this life on Friday morning, July 11, 2025, at his home.

He was born in LaGrange, Tennessee on February 9, 1944, to William G. Capshaw, Sr. and Mary Lou Gatewood Capshaw. Raised in the Rogers Springs community, he graduated from Middleton High School and Memphis State University. He also was a U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Capshaw resided in Memphis for over 30 years, working with the government and businesses in vehicle fleet sales and leasing, along with six years as co-owner of a restaurant. He retired disabled in 2005 and returned to Middleton as a caretaker for his widowed mother. A Baptist in belief, his main hobby was genealogies as he traced his family to their arrival in American in 1674.

Chapel services were held at Shackelford Funeral Directors on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the Middleton chapel with the burial in the Middleton City Cemetery.

He is survived by a son, Matthew; grandson, Casey; brothers, Donald (Alayne) and Jeffery; sister, Patricia Cruse (James); and a special friend, Cody Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Tracy.

Memorials may be sent to the Arthritis Foundation, the American Heart Association, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
