Hickory Valley Fish Fry Raises Funds to Outfit New Tanker Truck

The Hickory Valley Fire Department (HVFD) held its annual Fish Fry Fundraiser on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at City Hall. Supporters came from all over the county from Hickory Valley to Whiteville to Bolivar, and Toone, and even from Fayette County to help raise funds for a great cause and enjoy a delicious meal.
This is the third year the Fish Fry Fundraiser has been held. Since its inception, the HVFD has raised enough funds to purchase the brand-new Hickory Valley Fire Truck Tanker 1, which was unveiled in February 2025 with much pomp and circumstance. HVFD Fire Chief Mike Vaughn proudly shouted, “crank that truck’” as the tanker emerged from the garage.
The tanker truck has been a great addition to the department and Chief Vaughn noted, it has already “served its purpose” by allowing the volunteer team to better assist in firefighting efforts in Hickory Valley and the surrounding communities.

Now that the department has a new tanker truck, the fundraising goal is to outfit the truck with the necessary equipment.
Helping hands were seen everywhere which included Chief Vaughn and volunteer firefighters frying fish and french fries, to wives and supporters selling tickets, preparing sides of coleslaw and deserts, and serving plates. City Hall was set up for dining where people sat to enjoy their food, fellowship, and just hang out.
“It’s a great way to support a local, rural fire department,” said Whiteville resident Gaylene Bryant.

Hickory Valley, known for its community spirit, has actively supported the efforts of the volunteer fire department. Always grateful, Chief Vaughn thanked the community for its continued support.
“I appreciate the turnout and thank everyone for their support,” said Chief Vaughn.
The fundraiser closed on Saturday with the HVFD selling 250 plates and raising $4,200. If you would like to make a donation to the Hickory Valley Fire Department, call (731) 659-2514.
