Senator Walley Applauds Over $160 Million in Tourism Spending Across District 26

Today, State Senator Page Walley highlighted the significant impact of tourism across Senate District 26, with visitor spending exceeding $160 million in the latest economic report. Tourism supported 1,200 jobs in the 26th Senatorial District which includes: Chester, Fayette, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Lawrence, McNairy, and Wayne Counties.
“Tourism continues to be one of the most powerful drivers of economic opportunity for our rural communities,” said Senator Walley. “From our scenic parks and rivers to rich musical and cultural heritage, people are discovering what makes our part of Tennessee so special. This kind of growth helps small businesses thrive, supports good jobs, and eases the tax burden on hardworking families.”
Key Highlights include:
- Every county in District 26 saw millions in visitor spending, reflecting strong regional appeal across rural West and Middle Tennessee.
- Local tourism generated over $8.6 million in state taxes and $7.1 million in local taxes.
- The average household in the district saved about $191 in taxes thanks to tourism revenue.
Senator Walley thanked local tourism partners and pledged to continue to support investments that grow the region’s appeal to visitors.
