Bolivar Lady Tigers Basketball Begin New Season Under Coach Beauregard’s Leadership

Rick Rudesill and William McBroom are two of the most influential names for Bolivar Central High School basketball. Those names are especially influential to Nick Beauregard, whose name may one day be added to that list, as Bolivar Central High School (BCHS) recently welcomed him as the new head coach for the girls’ basketball team. Coach Beauregard began playing basketball at the age of five and can still be seen on the court at 41, as he participates in the 35 and older league. He has been a coach for the last 15 years, for both girls and boys.
Beauregard played forward and center on the BCHS boys’ basketball team from 1998 until 2002 and is excited to return to Central’s court to continue the legacy from the coaches that inspired him. Playing basketball under Coach Rudesill, Coach Griffin, Coach McBroom, and Coach Perry at BCHS helped prepare Beauregard for college ball by teaching him work ethic and drive, which contributed to his success in both basketball and education. Beauregard attended Columbia State and Lane College for his Bachelor of Science in Education, and later received his Master of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix.
Playing college basketball taught Beauregard the importance of coach/player relationships. Coach Beauregard approaches coaching with a demanding but supportive attitude.
“I try to hold my players to a high standard, often pushing them past their limits because I want the best for them,” said Coach Beauregard. “I focus on fundamentals and efforts. I believe in teaching the right way and helping players understand the why behind what they do. I am very passionate and competitive, but I also listen to my players.”
Winning the district, regional, and substrate championship during his time as a player at BCHS are some of Beauregard’s most memorable moments. He hopes to boost that kind of morale for the girls this season.
“I want to bring the excitement back to girls’ basketball. I want to create something that younger girls yearn to be a part of,” said Coach Beauregard.
In addition to bringing excitement to the girls’ basketball team, Coach Beagueard’s goal is, of course, winning the state championship, but he also wants to instill discipline, respect, confidence, and teamwork into each player. He wants to help the girls reach their individual goals by competing at the next level, if they desire to do so.
“Players can expect consistency, intensity, and accountability from me daily. In practice I am going to push them to compete and do things the right way. During games, I will coach with passion. I expect toughness, communication, and unselfish play whether we are up 20 or down 10,” said Coach Beauregard.
Coach Beauregard will consider himself a successful coach if his players walk away more confident, respectful, driven, and prepared for life.
“I want my legacy to be about the impact I made and not just about wins and losses. I want to help the younger generations grow into strong, disciplined individuals,” said Coach Beauregard. “My goal is to help build the culture of hard work and pride, representing Bolivar Tigers. Years from now, I want past players to be able to say that Coach Beauregard helped prepare me for life.”
Coach Beauregard would like to thank the administration for the opportunity to coach the Lady Tigers, In advance, he also thanks the fans for showing up, making noise, wearing spirit colors, and creating an environment where the girls represent something bigger than themselves.
