Mu Zeta Zeta Chapter Makes Disaster Relief Donation to Grand Junction

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the Mu Zeta Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. made a generous donation of $5,603.98 to the City of Grand Junction, Tennessee for disaster relief. The initiative was prompted by the aftermath of the storms, which ripped through Hardeman County in April 2025. Fortunately, no, lives were lost in the area, but there was significant damage throughout the community.

“This initiative was done because of the April storm victims, particularly Grand Junction storm victims. We wanted to come together as a collaborative effort to ensure those victims had support in some form or fashion. Our financial donation will contribute to those victims,” said Mu Zeta Zeta Chapter President Tameria Bowlin.

Members of the Mu Zeta Zeta Chapter were on hand to present Hardeman County Mayor Todd Pulse the check, which he accepted on behalf of Grand Junction Mayor Curtis Lane.

“We reached out to people all over the nation to contribute to this initiative. One of the things we were telling other people why you should contribute is this could be at your doorstep tomorrow. We are all interconnected and have to help each other,” said chapter member Yvonne Griggs Allen, who was the coordinator for the project. “Our hands reach in many areas to provide services for those in need and other organizations. When there is a disaster, whether it is in Hardeman, the state, or the nation, we need to reach out to help others.”

The Mu Zeta Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was charted in Bolivar-Hardeman County in 1979. Joyce Muphy is the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority State Director and a member of the Mu Zeta Zeta Chapter.

“Mu Zeta Zeta is doing dual-roles. They not only provide scholarships and assistance to Hardeman County, but Fayette County too. They are called an extraordinary chapter in the State of Tennessee and the first chapter to expand to serve another county,” said Ms. Murphy. “I give kudos, as the state director, to the chapter for its donation!”

Ms. Allen was able to attend the Hardeman County Commission meeting {48:35 minute mark in video}, which was held on Tuesday evening. At the meeting, she presented the check to Mayor Curtis Lane.

The Mu Zeta Zeta Chapter meets the first Saturday of every month. The chapter has graduates from schools, which include Lane College, Tennessee State University, University of Memphis, and the University of Tennessee at Martin.
