Meet Amanda Rau: Ayers Foundation College Access Counselor at Bolivar Central

Amanda Rau came on board with the Ayers Foundation in July 2025 and eagerly started the 2025/2026 school year as a College Access Counselor prepared to assist Bolivar Central High School seniors with their transition from high school to post-secondary education. Although this is Ms. Rau’s first year in the position, she brings knowledge and experience, which has benefited BCHS students and their families.

“I bring many years of experience in education, college access, and student support, which I’m excited to put to work serving the students and families at Bolivar Central High School. Having guided students—especially first-generation and underserved populations—through applications, FAFSA completion, and financial aid literacy,” said Ms. Rau. “My years as a college instructor and K–12 teacher strengthened my ability to mentor students, form meaningful relationships, and tailor support to diverse needs. Across all roles, I have focused on removing barriers and empowering students to reach their educational and career goals.”

Ms. Rau previously worked with the Tennessee’s Vocational Rehabilitation program, where she collaborated with schools to provide career readiness training and postsecondary planning support, delivering person-centered services that built trust with students and families. She understands the importance of working closely not only with the students, but also their parents/guardians. Building those relationships has been instrumental in assisting students through the college application process. Now that the Ayers Foundation supports Hardeman County Schools { https://hatchiepress.com/ayers-scholars-program-expanding-to-hardeman-county-schools/}, Ms. Rau offers assistance to seniors applying for the Tennessee Promise.

“What excites me most about serving Hardeman County students is the opportunity to walk alongside them as they discover their strengths, explore their options, and take confident steps toward their futures. Hardeman County is full of talented, hardworking young people with unique dreams, and I’m honored to help remove barriers, build trust, and connect them with the resources and support they need to succeed,” said Ms. Rau. “Watching a student realize that his or her goals are within reach—and knowing I played a small part in that journey—is incredibly rewarding.”
