Arts Council Makes Changes to Scholarship Opportunity for Graduating Seniors

The Hardeman County Arts Council has made a change to the annual scholarship it gives away to qualified high school seniors in Hardeman County. Previously, the scholarship was given to one qualified high school senior from Bolivar Central High School (BCHS) and one qualified high school senior from Middleton High School (MHS), or a qualified Hardeman County home school student zoned for one of those schools. This year, instead of limiting the recipients to being one from each high school, the Arts Council is offering a $500, one-time scholarship to two qualified high school seniors from Hardeman County. This change opens opportunity for more than one student from the same high school or zoned for that school to be a recipient of the scholarship.

The scholarship is open to seniors pursuing a college major or minor in the arts and/or related fields. Degree programs in art, creative writing, dance, drama, literature, and music, as well as teaching in these areas or related fields, will be considered. Students who have participated in an HCAC production on stage, behind the scenes, or in the box office (ex: usher, concessions, etc.), are also eligible to apply even if they are not pursuing a degree in one of those fields.

BCHS and MHS students may pick up a scholarship application from their high school counselor. Home school and private school students may contact Jennifer Smeltser at (510) 931-8314 to receive an application.

The application deadline is Friday, April 17, 2026. Late entries will not be accepted.
