Toone Elementary School Celebrates its Rockabillys Readers

Toone Elementary School celebrated its Rockabillys Readers students, who pledged and successfully read for 20 minutes a day, five days a week over a five-week period. The Rockabillys Readers Challenge, which is sponsored by the United Way of West Tennessee and the Jackson Rockabillys, began its first round on September 29, 2025, and finished November 7, 2025, with each student receiving an All-Star Reader Award certificate, a prize, and a visit from “JR” the Rockabillys Mascot.

The Rockabillys Readers is an incentive program to encourage children in preschool through fifth to read. For the first round of the reading challenge, there were students from more than 20 schools across West Tennessee that participated. The challenge was also open to independent students, who do not attend a participating school. Students received a reading log to track their progress which amounted to a little over eight hours during the challenge.

The next round of the challenge will start in January 2026. Current participating students may register through their school. If a student does not attend a participating school, they may e-mail info@rockabillysbaseball.com for more information.

A special opportunity for all participants is to attend a field trip to a spring Jackson Rockabillys home baseball game.
