Bolivar Library Honors Julia Bobbitt with Conference Room Dedication

If you visited the Bolivar-Hardeman County Library in the past few years, it is likely you were greeted by a short, petite, beautiful smiling woman. She probably asked you if you needed any help, if you knew about the upcoming library programs, or maybe even if you knew that potatoes were included in her famous cinnamon roll recipe. That woman was Julia Bobbitt. Whatever question she asked you, your answer mattered to her.

Julia Bobbitt, who was affectionally known as “Mrs. Julia,” was an incredible blessing to the library. After her passing in October 2025, the library received numerous memorial donations from friends and family members of Mrs. Julia. The library’s director, Becky White, knew she wanted to do something special with those memorial donations in honor of Julia. Mrs. White decided the memorial donations would be used to furnish a professional conference room, including a new wooden desk and 10 office chairs.

On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, a private ceremony was held among Julia’s friends and family members to dedicate what will now and forever be known as the Julia Bobbitt Memorial Conference Room.

At the ceremony, Mrs. White shared a personal anecdote.

Bolivar-Hardeman County Library Director Becky White shared a personal anecdote.

“There was a story that Julia shared with me many times about a little boy she had met on one of her trips to the beach. He was picking up shells and showing them to her. They talked about how pretty they were. He brought her one that was broken, and she said to him, ‘Oh, this one is broken,’ and he told her that the broken ones were beautiful too. She loved that story, and I truly think it was because that is how she saw others. She knew how to look beyond our faults and loved us anyway,” said Mrs. White.

Two other library staff members shared fond memories of Julia.

Vanessa Lambert worked with Julia Bobbitt at the Bolivar-Hardeman County Library and misses her every day.

“Julia was a natural teacher, but she should have been a car saleswoman. She could do anything . . . and sell anything!” shared Vanessa Lambert. “Julia had such a heart to serve. She would cook us treats and each one would be made specific to our preferences. My treats would never have cheese! I miss Julia every day.”

“Julia taught me about customer service, about culinary arts, and even how to negotiate when I wanted to buy my first car. I wish I could have brought her to do it for me. She would have done better than I did,” said Hannah Thompson. “One of my favorite memories was when the library staff got to help throw Julia’s first surprise birthday party. She was so grateful. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of a surprise party or dedicating this new conference room. She was precious.”

Hardeman County Mayor Todd Pulse attend the dedication ceremony.

The library invites community members to reserve a session to come study, work, or read in the Julia Bobbitt Memorial Conference Room.
