Mindfulness Monday Coming to Bolivar Library: Pause, Breathe, Be Present
If breathing weren’t autonomic, would you remember to do it? Being intentional about breathing is one of the best – and easiest – forms of mindfulness.

Mindfulness is a non-judgemental acknowledgment of your emotions. It can have several health benefits including:
- Lower levels of anxiety and depression
- Improved cognitive function
- Better emotional regulation
- It can also enhance your relationships by fostering empathy and active listening.
- Reducing chronic pain
The Bolivar-Hardeman County Library invites you to its brand-new program: Mindfulness Mondays! This three-session program will take place every Monday at 1 p.m. in January, beginning January 5, 2026 (except January 19, closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.)

The goal for this program is to teach the community about the benefits of mindfulness and provide an hour-long session of Zen. As the holidays come to an end, it is a perfect time to slow down from the adrenaline rush we have been experiencing for the past few months and practice mindful exercises, some of which will include sensory boxes, color by number, Zen tangles, and more.
As a psychology student and mental health advocate, Hannah Thompson, the assistant director of the Bolivar-Hardeman County Library, is interested and passionate about the impacts of mindfulness.
“I have put together a short presentation for each week on different elements of mindfulness. I’ve also prepared practical mindfulness exercises as well as sensory boxes to practice with during the session and take home,” said Ms. Thompson. “If you don’t know what a sensory box is, come find out!”

This is a free program, which will be held right around lunchtime. The hope is to make it available to all community members, not just those who do not work. With the time of 1 p.m., it is an ideal time to stop by on your lunch break.
This program is FREE, but space is limited. Register ASAP!
