Many volunteers, along with elected officials from Hardeman County and the City of Middleton spent time this week serving their neighbors in Middleton. After last week’s fierce winter weather, many around Hardeman County have spent days in the dark with below freezing temperatures eagerly awaiting their power to be restored.

The community leaders quickly saw the great need and jumped into action opening a warming center at the Middleton Community Center.

“We are pleased to have hosted over 300 citizens from southern Hardeman County and North Mississippi today [January 28] at the Middleton Community Center. Breakfast will be served at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. After lunch is served by local officials and volunteers, the American Red Cross will assume preparations for meals and overnight accommodations,” shared Elizabeth Stevens, a compassionate volunteer from Bolivar.

The warming center is located at the Middleton Community Center on South Main Street and is open 24 hours a day, as long as there’s a need.
