Senior Spotlight: Reece McMahan

By: Hannah Thompson
Reece McMahan is a senior this year at Bolivar Central High School who hopes to leave a musical legacy after he graduates in May 2026. Throughout high school, Reece has flourished in the musical and theatre arts department, having thrived in high school band, acted at the Hardeman County Arts Council, and even attended Carnegie Hall’s Honors Performance Series Music Program in New York City.
Participating in the Bolivar Central High School’s band created a new family for Reece and provided him with a creative outlet to express his feelings.
Some of Reece’s favorite high school memories include performing on stage with his bandmates at pep rallies. Performing with his friends is what Reece will miss most about high school after he graduates. Reece would encourage incoming freshmen to join the band and be a part of the magical camaraderie that blooms when musicians and music lovers unite.

“Mr. William Griggs, our band director, has been an ultimate mentor in my musical journey.” Reece shared a quote from his mentor that motivated him the most throughout his high school career: “It’s not hard, it’s just a level you haven’t experienced before.”
In addition to band and theater, Reece enjoys media club, tennis, walking, gaming, and playing the clarinet. He is also a Middle College student, a program that offers college courses to high school students in pursuit of a two year degree.

Reece is undecided on where he would like to attend college, but plans on pursuing a degree in musical education. In five years, Reece hopes to be performing professionally in a classical setting.
Reece would advise incoming freshmen to focus on their grades and to be authentic. Reece is most grateful to his parents for their support. The biggest lesson that Reece learned in high school was to not be jealous of other people’s victory, and that his time would come. And indeed it came; Reece McMahan has proven that patience, discipline, and belief in himself mattered more than comparison, turning quiet perseverance into well-earned success.
