Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest Masterclass Comes to Sassafras Farms in Toone

TOONE, Tenn. — Sassafras Farms will host a one-of-a-kind comedy and cultural experience when the Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest (MVCF) Masterclass comes to town. This Brunch, Learn & Laugh event is Sunday, February 22, 2026, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., featuring founder and producer of the Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest Steve Capers and veteran comedian Damon Williams. Sassafras Farms is located at 315 Hill House Road, Toone, TN.

Sassafras Farms is owned and operated by physician, farmer, and native Memphian Dr. Gisele Goff, who created the countryside oasis in 2021 as an eco-friendly retreat where sustainable farming and peaceful relaxation coexist. Nestled across 18 scenic acres, the farm features an elegant barn event venue and a guest house that accommodates up to 18 people, making it an ideal destination for both celebrations and getaways. This working farm produces fresh greens, purple hull peas, and peppers, and includes a thriving orchard that will soon yield peaches, plums, Asian pears, blueberries, and cherries. There’s also a large Koi pond and a bee apiary that provides local honey, known for helping with seasonal allergies, while free-roaming chickens, peacocks, and goats add to the farm’s warm, inviting charm — creating a true countryside oasis unlike any other.

There is even a store. Sassafras Scented Farmacy is open every Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and features seasonal products and an eclectic array of bath and body products, snacks, jewelry and clothing form Dr. Goff’s signature brand, All Things G

“I’m a city girl who moved to the country in search of nourishment, peace, and tranquility — not just for myself, but to share with others. As a physician, I understand the importance of eating healthy food that’s free of harmful chemicals and pesticides. And as a Black farmer, I know how challenging it can be to make a farm thrive, so I chose to blend agriculture with a beautiful event venue,” said Dr. Goff. “I invite everyone to come enjoy the Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest Masterclass and experience the farm. We’re going to have a wonderful time.”

Presented as part of the acclaimed Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest, this immersive event blends storytelling, history, and live comedy with a delicious brunch provided by Fourway Soul Food Restaurant, complete with mimosas and music provided by a live DJ. The masterclass is co-hosted by Steve Capers, Founder and Executive Producer of the Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest, and Damon Williams, a 30+ year comedy veteran, radio personality, and television writer. Together, they will guide audiences through the powerful evolution of African American comedy — from the days of vaudeville and the “Chitlin’ Circuit” to today’s global stage — highlighting how laughter has served as both resistance and resilience throughout history.

“This isn’t just a comedy show — it’s about legacy. The Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest has been going on for 13 years, featuring hilarious high-profile comedians that draw an average of 14,000 attendees. We turned what we’ve learned about comedy, event production, and the history of black comedy into a masterclass about the lessons, challenges, and triumphs behind building a movement that honors the past while creating space for the next generation of Black comedic excellence,” said Capers.

The Sassafras Farms event also includes a book signing of Capers’ memoir, “Black Face to Black Faces: The Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest Story,” offering guests a deeper look into the festival’s origins and its impact on comedy culture, as well as a performance by Williams. Special guest, Memphis-based comedian Jae Henderson, will also appear, adding her signature brand of clean humor.

There are two options for those who wish to attend.
