Obituary: Jewell S. Reid

Jewell S. Reid, 88, of Middleton, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on February 21, 2026.

Born January 5, 1938, in Hornsby, Tennessee, Jewell was the daughter of Pink and Janie Sipes. She attended Bolivar Central High School and later graduated from Jackson State Community College and Lambuth University. She obtained her masters  degree from University of Tennessee, Martin. After retirement, Jewell and Wade completed the Tennessee Extension Master Gardener Program. They were both involved in the Hardeman County Master Gardener Association, the Lions club, election official. She was a columnist for the Bolivar Bulletin. Jewell and Wade were active members of First Baptist Church Middleton and participated in the programs and activities of the church while their health allowed. Jewell dedicated 19 years of her life to education, teaching at Bolivar Central High School, where she touched the lives of countless students.

On April 28, 1960, Jewell married the love of her life, Wade Reid. She was known for her strong faith, and devotion to her family. Jewell found her purpose and joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She treasured time spent with her family, especially watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Her home was a place of warmth, love, and welcome to all who entered.

Jewell is survived by her husband, Wade Reid; her daughter, Dana Reid Pierce and husband Michael Pierce, and their children Mykah and Christian Hernandez and Desiree Pierce; her son, Kevin W. Reid; her granddaughter, Heather Reid Gibson; and her great-grandchildren, Gavin and Harper Jane Gibson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pink and Janie Sipes, and her siblings: Luedell Sipes, Theron Sipes, Adron Sipes, James Burrel Sipes, Thomas Sipes, Troy Sipes, Wade Sipes, and Velma Sipes.

Church services are 3 pm Thurs., February 26th at Hornsby Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar on Wed., February 25th from 5-8 pm and again after 1 pm on Thursday at the church.  Burial is in Wyatt Cemetery.

Jewell will be remembered for her loving heart, her dedication to her family and students, and the strength that defined her life. Her legacy of faith and love will live on in all who knew her.  Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Wyatt Cemetery in Hornsby.
