SCAM ALERT: Hardeman County Residents Targeted by Callers Seeking Payments
The Hardeman County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers who are falsely claiming to represent county offices and requesting payments.
According to the Circuit Court Clerk Jennifer Burkeen, reports have been received from Hardeman County residents who were contacted by individuals claiming to be with the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office or another Hardeman County government office. During the calls, the individuals reportedly request payment of fees.
Officials emphasized that the calls are not coming from the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office or Hardeman County.
Residents are urged not to provide callers with personal information, banking information, credit or debit card numbers, or any other financial information. Residents should also not make payments to anyone making these unsolicited calls.
Anyone who receives one of the suspicious calls is encouraged to avoid engaging with the caller and report the incident to their local law enforcement agency.
Residents who are unsure whether they legitimately owe a fee or payment to the Hardeman County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office should contact the office directly at 731-658-6524 to verify the information.
The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is also asking residents to share the warning with family members, friends and neighbors to help prevent others from becoming victims of the scam.
