Chili Cook-Off, Plant Talk Highlight Master Gardeners October Meeting

The Hardeman County Master Gardeners combined gardening education, good food and fellowship during their October meeting, which included a chili cook-off and a presentation from a special guest speaker.

Members put a fun twist on their usual meeting refreshments by participating in a chili cook-off. Attendees had the opportunity to sample a variety of homemade chili while spending time together before turning their attention to the evening’s gardening program.
Sabrina Childs with Ball Seed Company served as the guest speaker for the meeting. Childs shared information about the company and discussed the extensive plant trials and testing conducted before new plant varieties become available for the public to purchase.
Members learned more about the behind-the-scenes process used to determine which plants eventually make their way to garden centers and, ultimately, home gardens.
