Hornsby Fire Department Secures More Than $290,000 in Grants for Equipment and Safety

The Hornsby Fire Department has secured more than $290,000 in grants over the past year to improve firefighter safety, emergency response capabilities, and fire protection for Hornsby and surrounding communities.

The largest award, a $238,000 FEMA grant, will fund the purchase of a new brush truck to assist with grass fires, brush fires, and other rural emergencies. However, the grant requires approximately $12,000 in local matching funds, and the department is seeking community donations to help meet that requirement.

Additional grants include:

$42,296 Tennessee Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant: Funded eight complete sets of firefighter turnout gear.
$10,000 State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Grant: Helped purchase rescue equipment to improve vehicle extrication and emergency response. Hornsby was one of only eight departments statewide selected.
Tennessee Wildland Fire Grant: Provided six firefighting rakes, six axes, six grass flappers, and two backpack blowers.

As a small volunteer department serving rural Hardeman County, Hornsby relies heavily on grants, donations, and community support to maintain its services.

Department officials expressed appreciation to the organizations providing funding and the community members who continue to support local firefighters.

Businesses, organizations, and residents are encouraged to donate toward the $12,000 matching requirement to help secure the new brush truck and strengthen emergency services for the community.
