Hardeman County Leaders Proclaim October Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Hardeman County and City of Bolivar officials have joined together to recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, bringing attention to the impact of domestic violence and the importance of supporting survivors throughout the community.
Hardeman County Mayor Todd Pulse, Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic, and Judge Harriet Thompson signed a proclamation on October 8, 2026, recognizing the month and encouraging residents to help prevent domestic violence while promoting safe, healthy relationships.
According to statistics included in the proclamation, 244 domestic violence and sexual assault reports were made to law enforcement in Hardeman County in 2025. Additionally, 32.4 percent of all crimes against persons reported in the county involved some form of domestic or sexual violence.
The proclamation also noted that eight individuals lost their lives to domestic violence in West Tennessee in 2025.
The proclamation emphasized that domestic violence extends beyond physical abuse and can include verbal, emotional, and financial abuse, as well as intimidation, isolation, threats, and controlling behavior. These forms of abuse can have lasting effects on survivors, their children, and the community.
The proclamation recognizes the work of WRAP, an organization providing trauma-informed support and resources to survivors of domestic and sexual violence across 19 counties in West Tennessee, including Hardeman County.
Through its services, WRAP works to empower survivors and their families while promoting safety, healing, and recovery.
In issuing the proclamation, local leaders emphasized the community’s responsibility to prevent domestic violence, support those affected, and hold offenders accountable.
Residents are encouraged to become more aware of domestic violence and take an active role in building safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and families.
The proclamation serves as a reminder that domestic violence is not just a private matter but a community concern that requires awareness, compassion, and action.
