Obituary: Mary Frances Thornton – Bolivar, Tennessee
Mary Frances Thornton departed this life peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, October 2, 2022, in Bolivar.
She was born February 19, 1941, in Bolivar, daughter of the late Alfred Thomas Howell and Louise Sisco Howell and lived in Detroit, Michigan for several years prior to moving back to this area. She then lived in Middleton before moving to Bolivar about four and one half years ago. She married Clinneth “Tiny” Thornton on June 27, 1985, and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1994.
While in Detroit, she worked as a line worker for General Motors, before becoming disabled. She was Baptist in faith. Memorial services are on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 3 p.m. at Hebron Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hebron Cemetery. The family invites all attending to stay afterwards for a dinner at the Hebron Church. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar are in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Flusty of Grand Blanc, Michigan; a son, Thomas Burgess of Bolivar; a sister, Dorothy Stewart (Mike) of Selmer; two brothers, David Howell (Martha) of Middleton and Johnny Howell (Brenda) of Bolivar; four grandchildren, Christina Williams, Harry Burgess, Ashley Flusty, and Jessica Neff; and two great grandchildren, Chevelle and Presley. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Charles Howell, and three sisters, Brenda Cates, Linda Gardner, and Mariola Bernadine.
