Over 2,600 Turn Out for Early Voting

Early voting ended last week with 2,647 people casting a ballot in Hardeman County. The number from early voting include in-person early voters, absentee by-mail ballots submitted by voters, and voters at licensed facilities.

The last day of early voting brought out 331 voters, the highest number of any day.

The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, November 8, 2022. On the ballot, voters will see the candidates for governor, followed by the four proposed amendments to the Tennessee Constitution, the United States House of Representatives, and the county’s remaining offices on the general election ballot.

Residents of Grand Junction, Hickory Valley, and Whiteville will also get to vote in their local elections. 

Grand Junction’s incumbent mayor, Curtis Lane is being challenged by Nakita L Prewitt. Grand Junction voters will also be able to choose three alderman on their ballot. There are only three people running for those open positions, Benjamin P. Allen, Steve Luellen, and Robert “Red” Webb.

Hickory Valley mayor Ricky Ayers is running unopposed. Hickory Valley voters will also be able to choose five alderman. There are only five people running for those open positions, Bobby Hensley, Richard Brian Lake, Duane L Lax, Jane M. Powell, and Noel Toney. 

Whiteville voters will be voting on a liquor referendum. Voters will choose whether they are for or against the legal sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises in Whiteville, and also whether to permit or not permit retail package stores to sell alcoholic beverages in Whiteville.

Election results will be shared by Hatchie Press on Tuesday evening, as they become available.
