Obituary: Pansy Thornton – Cloverport, Tennessee

Pansy Thornton ~ February 22, 1931 – November 19, 2022 (age 91)

Pansy Thornton, 91, of Cloverport, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born Sunday, February 22, 1931, in Hardeman County, daughter of the late Arcie Brown and Lois Hawthorne Grantham, living all of her life in Hardeman County.

She married Earnest Troy “Hot” Thornton on November 27, 1951, in Mississippi and he preceded her in death on October 12, 2012. Mrs. Thornton worked in housekeeping at an assisted living facility for 10 years and ran a flea market for several years. In her retirement, she enjoyed flowers, especially day lilies and iris, quilting, collecting dolls and cooking.

Mrs. Thornton was well known as an excellent seamstress and to never let anything slow her down. She was a faithful member of Cloverport Baptist for over 70 years, and was a dutiful tither and daily reader of her Bible. Mrs. Thornton especially loved being around her family.

Church services are at Cloverport Baptist Church on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 12 p.m. Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Cloverport Baptist Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors, 109 Mecklinburg Drive, Bolivar, Tennessee are in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Dottie Parker of Toone and Trish Hughes (David) of Brentwood, Tennessee; a sister, Marie McDonald, of Middleton; two brothers, Robert Grantham (Carol) of Toone and Ray Grantham (Betty) of Bolivar; a half sister, Jettie Ruth Roberts of Birmingham, Alabama; five grandchildren, who were everything to her, Christie Parker, Candy Sowder (Jamie), Sam Hughes (Abi), Andrew Hughes (Alexis), and Matthew Hughes (Jessie); and four great grandchildren, Parker, Caleb, and Jake Sowder, and Noah Hughes. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her step father, Clarence Grantham; a son in law, Sammy Parker’ a sister, Margaret Moore; and a brother, Kenneth Grantham. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Cloverport Baptist Church Cemetery.
